Greatest Grand Canyon National Park Spring Break Heli Excursions

By Jacky Archer

The Spring Break is fast approaching. Students and families all over America will be looking for something special to do between March and April. If you've been wanting to try something different, it is time to book a tour to the Grand Canyon. Helicopter flights depart from Vegas, but you'll have to book soon to make sure you don't miss out.

Helicopter Tours Out Of Vegas

The helicopters that depart from Vegas fly to the West Rim. The West Rim is closest to Vegas, so that is where the tours head, and it only takes about 30 minutes to cover the 120 miles from Vegas to the Canyon by helicopter. However, if you want to tour the South Rim instead, you can take an airplane flight there from Vegas rather than a helicopter flight.

The helicopters that fly out of Vegas pass over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead on the way to the Canyon, so you'll have plenty of things to see on your flight. The helicopter tours are available as landing tours or flyover tours. You will see many beautiful sights on the flyover tour, but the landing tours offer impressive views along with ground adventures.

Landing tours are fantastic, because you can land at the top of the rim, or inside the Canyon next to the Colorado River. The bottom landing tour that I recommend is the one that includes a Champagne picnic. This will set you down right next to the river, where you can even take a boat tour.

Top Of The Rim Tours

Landing at the top will put you next to some of the Canyon's best hiking trails, as well as the Skywalk. The Skywalk is an impressive platform that is 4000ft above the bottom of the Canyon. It is also 70ft over the edge, and has a transparent floor. It's exhilarating to stand on the Skywalk and marvel at the beauty of the National Park. If you're going to walk out on any of the trails, Guano Point and Eagle Point both offer spectacular views.

The Helicopters

When you book your helicopter tour, you have the option to upgrade to the deluxe version. The deluxe tour is best because these fly on the EcoStar 130 helicopters. This helicopter has a spacious cabin, flies smoother than any other touring helicopter, and has large stadium style seats. Best of all, it has a huge panoramic viewing window, which will give you unobstructed views, 180 degrees around the front of the helicopter.

Deluxe tours also come with a limousine shuttle service, so you'll feel like a real VIP when you purchase tickets for these tours.

South Rim Tours

The South Rim offers two different air tours. One is a 30-minute flight that goes to the North Rim and back. There is also a longer tour available that gives you 50 minutes of air time, and it goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and then to the eastern edge of the park. The longer tour is quite comprehensive, and it allows you to see about 75 percent of the national park.

Although South Rim helicopters aren't permitted to land inside the Canyon, you could combine a helicopter tour with an exciting Jeep tour that covers all of the landmarks from the ground.

Final Thoughts

I love the Grand Canyon. It is steeped in history, filled with natural beauty, and offers many exciting adventures. The sights are second to none, and with helicopters, you will have the best vantage point. For Spring Break, go with a deluxe package for the best experience. There are lots of fun adventures to add on when you tour the West Rim, and you can tour the South Rim if you prefer and add on a Jeep tour too.

Don't forget to book your tour in advance. When you book early, you get a better deal. You can book your tour online and pay with your credit card to get instant confirmation of your seat reservations for a Spring Break adventure you'll always remember.
